Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said the DOE’s suspension on new permits created a lot of uncertainty in her state, with tens of billions of dollars’ worth of infrastructure at stake. Biden's reversal of LNG export ban is a "victory" for American energy. The decision means the DOE must restart its permit approval process soon.
It is unclear when this will happen, however. According to an early February story by Real Clear Wire’s Matt Egan and Brent Bennett, the president’s politically motivated actions were aimed primarily at Texas and Louisiana, Republican states that account for the bulk of U.S. LNG exports.
Some have speculated that Biden’s action could have been a move to retaliate against Republican states that opposed opening southern borders. A separate report from the Washington Free Beacon said that John Podesta, Biden’s Climate Czar, ultimately pushed for the decision. As for Podesta’s involvement in the LNG attack, here’s more from Larry Behrens of Real Clear Wire: “Being a known climate warrior, it makes sense that Podesta would be pushing for policies against U.S. energy interests. At the same time, however, Podesta’s brother Tony, one of DC’s most connected lobbyists, has financial connections to foreign LNG companies, including one with ties to a Russian oligarch.
It is troubling to see the Podesta family benefit from a White House policy priority that employs another Podesta. Foreign companies, including Russia, are clear beneficiaries of Biden’s attack on LNG. It should raise questions about potential conflicts of interest and profit motives in the White House.
On the other hand, Angelo Fernandez Hernandez, a White House spokesman, told the Washington Post: "We are disappointed with today's decision. We remain committed to informing our decisions with the best available economic and environmental analysis,
"backed by sound science." The decision by radical climate warriors in the White House to undermine America's energy independence comes at a time when US LNG exports have doubled in the past four years.
